Regulatory and public scrutiny of the petroleum industry can only be expected to increase.  Compliance issues and provincial enforcement ladders require industry to have an Environmental Management system that integrates well with their operations and to take an active role in multi-stakeholder groups and community issues.

WEI personnel have successfully completed the ISO 14001 – Environmental Lead Auditing Course accredited by ANSI-RAB NAP (American Standards Institute – Registrar Accreditation Board – American National Accreditation Program) and EARA (Environmental Auditors Registration Association).

WEI has developed internal EMS audit methods that provide a gap analysis between a corporation’s current EMS, ISO 14001, and National Energy Board (NEB) requirements.

What is an Environmental Management System?

An environmental management system is the part of a corporation’s overall management system that includes organizational structure, planning activities, responsibilities, practices, procedures, processes and resources for developing, implementing, achieving, reviewing and maintaining the environmental policy.

A statement by an organization of its intentions and principles in relation to its overall environmental performance which provides a framework for action and for the setting of its environmental objectives and targets.

Why have an Environmental Management System?

An environmental management system is used by a corporation to establish and implement policies and procedures for operating an environmentally sustainable business.  An effective system will continually examine a corporation’s operations to determine:

  • Operational impacts on the environment.
  • Policies and procedures required to lessen or eliminate the impacts.
  • Applicable environmental standards and laws.
  • Evaluation of the corporation’s discipline in following the standards, laws and industry codes of practice.
  • Address regulatory requirements.
